Several hundred yards. This is a town beach that has several lifeguards. There are also two additional town beaches off of the same road. Bass River beach (known locally as Smugglers Beach) has changing facilities, snack bar, fishing pier, showers, and heavy small boat traffic in the adjacent river. Boats are nowhere near the swimmers though. Great family beach. If you have small children make it a point to go to Ridgevale Beach in Chatham about 12 miles away. There is a large inlet that has to be the best beach in the world for children. You won’t be disappointed.
