The beach promenade is quite safe and secure. Almost like a mini-Marine Drive (Mumbai). There are also designated times during the day when vehicular traffic in the area is restricted with barricades - allowing pedestrians to have a leisurely walk around the area. You would expect the place to be thronged by a lot of tourists, who are posing for the cameras, taking a stroll with family, jogging, playing with kids or generally having fun watching the scenery. Would suggest avoiding going too late in the nights or when the stretch is desolate. Evenings will be a good time to chill out. There are also restaurants in the vicinity.
