No Entrance Fee, but if you want to visit any of the attractions there is a small fee that is very reasonable. We paid to visit the gardens, the old post office, the Tibetan Museum and the Art Gallery. There is an option where you can buy a ticket that includes more attractions but you may rather just spend the time wondering and looking around. The boat ride is a separate additional fee.

Don’t take a taxi unless you have money to burn. Read the reviews of the place and either take a direct bus, many reviews tell you where and how much, or try the metro, which is new, line 17 from Hongqiao. Don’t know where you will end up but the direct bus drops you at the terminal, which is a five minute walk from the old town, there are signs for directions. The bus will take about an hour and a half, and allow you to see Shanghai’s suburbs.
