Mauricio Pochettino was not happy with the referees as his USMNT side lost 2-1 to Mexico in the final of the Gold Cup in Houston, Texas on Sunday. Edson Alvarez headed home the winner with just over 10 minutes to go as the USMNT coughed up an early lead given to them thanks to a superb Chris Richards header.

U.S. men’s national team manager Mauricio Pochettino lambasted referee Mario Escobar in the wake of his team’s 2-1 Concacaf Gold Cup final defeat to Mexico. Pochettino was dismayed at a pair of decisions that he believed tilted the contest against his team, which had taken an early lead thanks to Chris Richards’ headed goal in the fourth minute.

One moment during the second half had USMNT fans irate, as a controversial decision from referees took away a potential penalty for the Americans. In the 67th minute, left back Max Arfsten attempted to dribble inside the box when the ball was stolen by Jorge Sanchez, who got in the way of the ball while going down on one knee.
