LONDON — It’s fitting that the Wimbledon final between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner on Sunday represents the first time the same two men meet for that title right after playing for the French Open trophy since a couple of guys named Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal did so every year from 2006-2008.

Novak Djokovic went up against one of the sport’s most powerful young players Friday and fell to Jannik Sinner in the Wimbledon semifinal round Friday. The 38-year-old Djokovic was hoping to get a chance to compete against superstar Carlos Alcaraz in the championship Sunday, but Sinner dominated in a 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 triumph.

Top seed Jannik Sinner ensured Novak Djokovic will be absent from a Wimbledon men's singles final for the first time in eight years after handing the Serbian great a brutal Centre Court battering on Friday.
