Avalanche danger remains high in Colorado, thanks to several rounds of heavy snow that moved through the area in February. Three snowmobilers were partially buried by debris when they were caught in an avalanche north of Granby on Saturday.

One person was killed Saturday when a skier triggered an avalanche in Colorado, the Grand County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

In a separate incident, four people caught in another avalanche escaped serious injury, Colorado officials say.

The slide happened on Gravel Mountain near Grand Lake just before 2:30 p.m. The Colorado Avalanche Information Center said that three or four people were caught in the avalanche, but were able to get out on their own or with the help of bystanders. It is believed to have been triggered by a snowmobile.

The victim was traveling on a terrain feature known as The Nose near Silverton, Colo., when the avalanche occurred on Thursday, officials said.

Officials at the Colorado Avalanche Information Center are urging skiers, snowboarders, and others in the mountains to be careful after an avalanche killed a 41-year-old woman from Crested Butte was killed in an avalanche near Silverton.
