Hundreds of National Guard troops arrived in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday morning after President Trump ordered their deployment following days of violent clashes between law enforcement officers and protesters.

The National Guard was deployed to Los Angeles County as anti-ICE protests continued to escalate Saturday afternoon and into the evening. The unrest is centered in the city of Paramount, California, where protesters clashed with federal authorities,

California Gov. Gavin Newsom says he plans to sue the Trump administration to roll back the National Guard deployment, which he calls “illegal and immoral.” U.S. officials said about 1,000 National Guard members were in the city under federal orders by midday Monday to respond to immigration protests.
