Chicago Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner paid the price for it Sunday. Thomas was working home plate for Sunday's game between the Cubs and Detroit Tigers. He called Hoerner out on a bad called third strike. He then swiftly ejected Hoerner after Hoerner protested the call.

Tigers starting pitcher Jack Flaherty tossed a six-inning shutout with two hits and nine strikeouts against three walks in 94 pitches. The right-hander bested Cubs hurler Caleb Horton, who coughed up four runs on seven hits in five innings while adding six strikeouts and two walks.
