If you get a lead foot the next time you drive through a construction zone- it could cost you. In an effort to crack down on speeders, WSDOT will begin using a work zone speed camera for certain projects.

Washington averages over 1,300 work zone crashes annually, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) . In 2023, there were eight fatal crashes in work zones across the state, while another 28 caused serious injuries. Speeding was a factor in about a third of those crashes.

Washington drivers crash in work zones more than 1,000 times a year, compelling the Legislature to unanimously approve speed cameras along state highways.
