Brighton, Utah • An avalanche occurred Saturday afternoon in Big Cottonwood Canyon, killing one skier and injuring another. The Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office said the slide happened around 12:45 p.m. in the Cardiff Fork/Silver Fork area.

Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy Arlan Bennett confirmed that one person was killed in a separate avalanche, and another rescued in the east bowl of the Silver Fork area of Big Cottonwood Canyon, near Alta Ski Area.
