Eight years after Ely's first launch off a ship-based platform, the British Royal Navy overhauled the HMS Argus into the first vessel designed with a full-length, flat flight deck.

HMS Argus. In their endeavor to create a workable solution to use a mobile platform for aviation squadrons, the Royal Navy commissioned and put the HMS Argus into service in 1918.

HMS Argus got bombed. One gun crew was hit and we lost six men. They were buried at sea. The ship carried on but had a damaged flight deck. After the landings HMS Argus returned back home again.
