The BLM reported the 18 saddle-started horses from herd-management areas in Nevada, California and Utah were sold after four months of training by prison inmates.

In the early 2000's, BLM developed a partnership with the northern Nevada Correctional Center which led to inmates being able to spend hours everyday training, and bonding with these horses.
