It had lain underwater after accidental magazine explosions sank the battleship HMS Vanguard at Scapa Flow in 1917.

The wreckage turned out to belong to a large, wooden ship built during World War 1. The Texas Historical Commission said more than two dozen of these sunken ships are in Texas rivers.
