David ‘Syd’ Lawrence, the first British-born Black cricketer to play for England, has died. Lawrence's family made the announcement on Sunday with a statement through Gloucestershire, where Lawrence was the club president.

David ‘Syd’ Lawrence, the pioneering cricketer who became the first British-born Black player to represent England, has died at the age of 61.

David "Syd" Lawrence, the former Gloucestershire and England fast bowler, has passed away at the age of 61 following a year battling motor neurone disease (MND). A strapping fast bowler, Lawrence played five Tests for England and making 280 appearances for Gloucestershire,
