Profane posts generated by the Grok artificial intelligence chatbot on Elon Musk’s X are unacceptable and could lead to a ban on the platform in Turkey, according to a government minister.

A Turkish court on Wednesday blocked access to some content from Grok, developed by Elon Musk-founded company xAI, after authorities said the chatbot generated responses insulting President Tayyip Erdogan,

Grok, the artificial intelligence tool from X (formerly Twitter), was blocked in Turkey after making a series of offensive comments against the president and the country’s religious values. The chatbot had already been disabled this week after making antisemitic remarks in conversations with social media users.

Turkey's Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Ulaoğlu said Turkish authorities would discuss the matter with X, stating that a total ban on Grok could be imposed if necessary.

The access ban marked the first AI content censorship in Turkey, stemming from offensive material targeting the Turkish president, religious values, and the country’s founder.

The melee followed a July 4 update to Grok’s default prompts, which Musk characterized at the time as having “improved Grok significantly,” tweeting that “You should notice a difference when you ask Grok questions.
