The quilters of the Sundahl Lutheran Church made 240 quilts this winter for newcomers to the community, baby shower gifts, benefits, local missions, homeless shelters and Lutheran World Relief.

Lutheran World Relief has been giving quilts away since it reached out to war-torn Europe following World War II, the website says, and it provides an average of 300,000 worldwide each year.

“We feel good about what we do,” she said. Usually the quilts are sent to Lutheran World Relief in Baltimore, Maryland, and then shipped overseas to third-world countries, she said.

The quilts are to be gathered up here in Jefferson City, and prepared for shipment out to Lutheran World Relief. A larger in-gathering will occur in about two weeks.
