The risk that an increasingly ominous asteroid dubbed 2024 YR4 will crash into Earth in seven years now exceeds the the threat once posed by Apophis.

Chances are increasing that a large asteroid, dubbed YR4, will strike Earth in 2032, possibly resulting in large-scale destruction wherever it lands. On Tuesday, astronomers with NASA’s Center for Near-Earth Object Studies upgraded the odds of a YR4 strike to 3.1%, the highest risk level ever recorded.
