Five of Brazil's 11 Supreme Court justices will decide in the next three weeks whether former President Jair Bolsonaro and 33 others charged by the country's prosecutor-general with attempting a coup will stand trial.

President Donald Trump’s media company has sued a Brazilian Supreme Court justice. The complaint filed in Tampa federal court accuses Justice Alexandre Moraes of violating U.S. free speech protections when he imposed a ban on a right-wing supporter of former President Jair Bolsonaro.

The lawsuit came hours after the justice received an indictment of Brazil’s former president, who is an ally of President Trump.

Brazil’s former President Jair Bolsonaro has been charged in connection with an alleged coup plot to overturn the results of the 2022 election and keep his opponent from taking power, according to documents filed by prosecutors Tuesday evening.

Trump Media & Technology Group teamed up with video platform Rumble to file a lawsuit against Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, accusing him of political censorship.
