With Connor McDavid eligible to sign a contract extension on July 1, all eyes are on what will influence the Edmonton Oilers captain’s decision, both in terms of the date he signs and the type of deal he agrees to.

The Oilers have a fantastic team, particularly because of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl wreaking havoc on opposing defensemen. But, they also failed to retain key contributors such as Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg last year, leaving this 2024-25 iteration with less juice up front and less reliability on the back end.

Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid is arguably the best player in the NHL right now. Not everyone will agree with that statement, but he's at the very minimum at the top of the conversation for that title.
