The Los Angeles Chargers want star pass-rusher Khalil Mack back on the team in 2025. That much Chargers brass continue to make clear with every public appearance since they found out that Mack wouldn't be retiring.

GM Joe Horitz and the Chargers have a dilemma on their hands with Khalil Mack becoming a free agent this offseason.

Despite the decreased output from the future Hall of Famer, both parties have remained in contact, and Los Angeles is hopeful that the two sides can come to terms. General manager Joe Hortiz believes that Mack may just want to explore free agency since he’s never had the chance in his career that spans over a decade.

Not ideal. Those Chargers are flush with cap space, sitting on roughly $63.4 million before any other cap-saving moves. The most obvious has direct ties to Mack – parting ways with Joey Bosa would free up roughly $25 million more, which the Chargers could shift over to Mack.

“Khalil has never been a free agent in his life and so it might be something where Khalil wants to just say, ‘Hey, I was a free agent, I did it and I came back to L.A.,'” Hortiz said, via ESPN’s Kris Rhim. ”If it gets to that, that’s my hope.”

The Chargers remain hopeful to re-sign Khalil Mack, while Joey Bosa could be retained despite his cumbersome cap figure. More at PFR.
