Detroit — For the second consecutive year, the Red Wings and Patrick Kane took negotiations to the eve of free agency. The Wings and Kane worked out a deal on Monday night — one year for $3 million.

Patrick Kane is back for a third consecutive season with the Detroit Red Wings. The future first-ballot Hockey Hall of Famer agreed to terms on a one-year contract carrying a $3 million cap hit.

The way Patrick Kane flourished the second half of the season, there was little doubt he’d return to the Detroit Red Wings. The club made it official Monday, signing the 36-year-old future Hall-of-Famer to a one-year contract with a base salary of $3 million.
