In a news release sent last month, Metra says the biggest changes are the elimination of the 10-Ride Ticket as a fare option and the reduction of the number of fare zones from 10 to four.

Metra is overhauling its ticket system, introducing a 4-zone setup, phasing out 10-Ride tickets, and shifting to digital purchases.

Metra fares have traditionally been divided into zones, meaning the farther a passenger rides the more they pay. Under the new structure, Metra’s traditional 10 zones will be reduced to four.
