Southwest Airlines, long praised for its "Bags Fly Free" policy, announced in March it would end free checked baggage for most travelers. The revised policy took effect on May 28, requiring the majority of passengers to pay for their first and second checked bags.

When Southwest Airlines switched to charging for checked bags last month, travelers were left with the option to fork over $35 or fit all of their belongings inside their carry-ons. Now, the Dallas airline is facing similar struggles to other carriers when trying to accommodate more luggage than its overhead bins can fit.
