Tonga, officially known as the Kingdom of Tonga, is an archipelago located in the South Pacific Ocean, east of Fiji and west of Samoa. It consists of 176 islands, of which only 36 are inhabited.

An earthquake of magnitude 6.1 on the Richter Scale hit Tonga Islands on Friday, UAE's National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) said. NCM said that the earthquake was recorded at 2.27pm UAE Time.
