It's the day donut lovers have been waiting for. National Donut Day is Friday, a day the Salvation Army created nearly 90 years ago to honor the "Donut Lassies", its members who served donuts to soldiers during World War I.

Friday marked National Donut Day and Western Mass News got to celebrate thanks to the Salvation Amy, who swung by a local favorite, Donut Dip, Friday morning.One of America’s favorite sweet treats actually gets its own day twice a year.

It’s more than free treats! We celebrate with sprinkles, history, and sweet deals across the country. National Donut Day was started in 1938 by Chicago’s Salvation Army in order to honor the Donut Lassies that began serving during World War One.
