For almond, boron (B) and zinc (Zn) are the most important nutrient applications for fall, with boron taking the lead. Why? Because they need to already be in the bud at bloom. Boron at high levels is toxic, but it is an essential nutrient and at low levels can be deficient and limit production.

Almond sprays should be timed after harvest before leaves fall for best effects, or at bud swell but before the trees are in bloom. Boron sprays during bloom can damage flowers and interfere with bee pollination. Major boron deficiencies must be corrected via a soil application.
