Mar 27, 2005 · Black chrome is not as hard, durable, or corrosion resistant as the hard chrome that is used in shotgun bores. However, it is good compared to bluing. It certainly should not wipe off if applied correctly in the first place. According to Techplate, black chrome is often oiled or waxed to make it look blacker:

May 30, 2006 · I want a black gun, but want the properties (ie, hardness and durability) of hardchrome. I read in another thread that Benny has put a black bake-on coat over hard chrome to achieve this.
