Come for a stroll along this gem of a walk which is only a hop, skip and a jump away from Hay’s quirky narrow streets. A delight in all seasons, the old railway line follows the wooded banks of the River Wye to an expansive riverside meadow known as ‘The Warren’.

Walking the Hay-on-Wye River and Rail Circular Trail is an easy-going experience in Brecon Beacons National Park that will see you make your way through a mixture of urban and countryside terrain.

Follow this path until you reach Hay Bridge, enjoying the lovely scenery and the gentle flow of the River Wye. Follow the road back into the centre of Hay-on-Wye and take a meander through the narrow streets, providing the opportunity to visit the cafes, antique shops, and over 30 bookshops.

This trail starts from a car park along the River Wye and follows the Hereford, Hay and Brecon railway path along the riverside to the beautiful meadow known as the Warren. The Warren is an area of Special Scientific Interest (SSI) and offers a great opportunity to spot wildlife.
