4 days ago · Thought a few members of the forum might find some current photographs of ex Illinois Central Railroad car 3300 "Bamboo Grove".... one time 54 seat bar lounge observation .. lot 6633 plan 7442 built for the City of Miami. Photographs are in March 2014 and car is located in Ormond Beach Florida located at a condominium complex.

May 15, 2021 · 3300 "Bamboo Grove" was built by Pullman-Standard. It was rebuilt. 3305 "Mardis Gras" was built in 1918 and rebuilt in 1947 from 2186, a coach. It was sold to Louis Saia and sold to NRHS Roanoke in March 1978. It was painted as Norfolk & Western tuscan red.

The City of Miami was a seven coach Illinois Central streamliner that carried passengers between Chicago and Miami in about 51 hours. The cars were built by Pullman and the train began operating on December 18, 1940. The bar was located in the “Bamboo Grove” observation car.

The observation portion of the “Bamboo Grove” was also colorful but doesn’t seem to have bamboo trip. No larger view available. Illinois Central soon painted over the City of Miami ‘s bright color scheme with its post-war standard (and boring) chocolate brown.
