Pectinariidae, or the trumpet worms or ice cream cone worms, are a family of marine polychaete worms that build tubes using grains of sand roughly resembling ice cream cones or trumpets. These structures can be up to 5 centimetres (2 in) long.

Simply digging into the sand may uncover something just as tasty, or at least, far more interesting. The ice cream cone worm, ‘trumpet worm’ or or pectinariidae, are a polychaete worm that live in the fine sediment of both shallow and deep seas, as well as the mud flats of estuaries and rivers.

Pectinariids are polychaete worms that are easily recognised by their distinctive tubes which resemble the texture of an ice cream cone. They are made of cemented sand grains, small stones and shell fragments.
