Oct 8, 2018 · An AAE file contains edits made to an image using the Photos app on an iOS device. It is used to transfer non-destructive edits a user has made to ‘.jpg’ images. Basically these are additional files that are created next to the actual jpg photo file.

The information I'm finding on the web says the .aae file is an XML (text) file recording information about the edits that were made, but not containing image data itself. So it sounds like you may be looking for a Windows image editing app that can apply the edits from the .aae XML file to the original (unedited) .jpg. –

Sep 29, 2014 · As has already been posted in this thread, an .aae file contains edits to the associated image that you have made on the phone, using either the image editing capabilities or by enabling filters. .aae files do not hold the image, only the edit instructions. Dec 31, 2017 · I installed the Photoshop Fix App on my iphone. I opened the AAE file there by hitting the + sign for new project and selecting the photo I had edited. Next, I cropped a little (even if you don't know how to use Photoshop, everyone knows how to crop). Then I saved the project to my camera roll. It saved is a .JPG.

Jul 23, 2015 · If you've edited a photo (e.g. added filters, cropped, etc), then the AAE file for that photo would contain the adjustments, while the JPG would be the original, unedited photo. At this point, there aren't any apps that appear to actually support importing these files. If an image has not been edited there will not be an AAE file for it.
