Black History, and the American Boy Scout Movement, a story
In 1916, the first official Boy Scout Council-promoted Negro Troop 75 began in Louisville, KY. By the next year, four official black troops were in the area. Hamilton Bradley of New York is now BSA's earliest known Black Eagle Scout. According to newspaper records from the time, his Eagle Scout court of honor was held on Dec. 19, 1919.
