The Village of Machesney Park is a growing, family-friendly community of nearly 23,000 residents in Northern Illinois. The Village of Machesney Park along with the Forest Preserves of Winnebago County, Harlem Township, Illinois Department of Natural Resources, and the Rockford Park District, provide local residents with exceptional parks and recreational facilities for all ages and interests.

Mayor Steve Johnson has served as an elected official in Machesney Park since 2005. He served 10 years as Village Treasurer and 2 years as Village Trustee for District 2 before being elected Mayor in April 2017.

The name “Machesney Park” is derived from the former Machesney “Rockford” Airport and the area’s original informal name, North Park. Machesney Park was officially incorporated as a municipality in the State of Illinois on February 24, 1981, and recently celebrated its 40 th Anniversary in 2021.
