Orifice Plate - an overview | ScienceDirect Topics
An orifice plate has an opening that is smaller than the pipe diameter. The typical orifice plate has a concentric, sharp-edged opening. Because of the smaller area, the fluid velocity increases to cause a corresponding decrease in pressure. The flow rate can be calculated from the measured pressure drop across the orifice plate.
Orifice Meter - an overview | ScienceDirect Topics
An orifice meter consists of an orifice plate, a holding device, upstream downstream meter piping, and pressure taps. By far the most critical part of the meter is the orifice plate, particularly the widely used square-edged concentric plate, whose construction requirements are well documented in standards such as AGA-3 and ISO 5167-1.
Experimental study on effect of structural parameters on pressure …
Jun 1, 2023 · According to ISO5167-2 [25], the pressure taps of the orifice plate were located at a distance of 1D (pipe diameter D) from the upstream of the orifice plate and 6D downstream of the orifice plate. Because the range of the differential pressure of the orifice plate to be measured is large, the appropriate range of meters must be selected ...
Plate Orifice - an overview | ScienceDirect Topics
A critical component in a meter run is the orifice plate. Most often, the orifice plate is a thin, flat, circular disc, made of metal, having a flat handle. Depending on the methods being used and the data being gathered, different orifice plates types are installed. Figure 12.11 provides examples of various orifice plate configurations ...
Orifice plate cavitation mechanism and its influencing factors
Sep 1, 2010 · The orifice critical cavitation number is closely related to the orifice plate size, and especially closely related with the ratio of the orifice plate radius to the tunnel radius. The approximate formula for the critical cavitation number of the square orifice plate that only considers the main influencing factor was obtained by model experiments.

Noise optimization of multi-stage orifice plates based on RBF …
Dec 1, 2022 · For the water supply systems with large flow rate, high pressure drop and short pipeline distance, the single-stage orifice plate is not suitable. It will result in excessively high local flow velocity, fluid cavitation, and severe noise. The MSOP can realize the high pressure drop due to its multi-stage pressure reduction structure.
Orifice plate modeling with two-phase multiplier including the …
Dec 1, 2022 · This paper analyses a concentric thin orifice plate with sharp edges. The definition of a thin orifice is the ratio s/d equal, or less than 0.5, where s is the thickness of the plate and d is the orifice diameter, Chisholm (1983). The area contraction ratio is σ equal to (d/D) 2, where D is the inner pipe diameter.
Reynolds number dependence of an orifice plate - ScienceDirect
Apr 1, 2013 · In ordinary power plants and distribution networks the four prevailing flow sensors are the orifice plate flow meter, the ultrasonic flow meter, the electromagnetic flow meter and the Venturi meter. Nearly all types of nuclear, coal-fired, geothermal, solar thermal and natural gas power plants as well as waste incineration plants are thermal ...
