Jan 3, 2021 · i'm fairly certain my PS5 killed my brand new Samsung SSD about a month ago for example, and there's been lots of reports of crashing with external SSDs. personally i'm terrified of using one with the console again until things can be confirmed as safe.

Oct 15, 2020 · In PS5 at least, the SSD chips are soldered to the motherboard. I'm assuming in that case your console is entirely screwed and needs to be sent off for replacement. With PS3/PS4 you could just replace the HDD, but that's not the case anymore.
